Deeply Rooted, Open to Growth

I have a favorite tree in my neighborhood. I pass it most days on my walk. Some trees become our teachers.
The old giant has stood there through countless seasons. It has witnessed storms that snapped branches, winters that stripped it bare, summers that asked it to stretch toward the sun again and again.
It doesn’t resist the changing seasons or cling to the branches it has lost. It simply continues to root deeper and reach higher.
Just like this tree, we will all experience loss. We will bend; and we may even break in places.
But our strength isn’t always measured by what we have endured. It’s often revealed by our willingness to stay rooted in who we are while remaining open to growth.
May we practice becoming like our favorite tree:
Deeply rooted.
Present with each season.
Unafraid to let go.
Always reaching toward the light.
