What should I wear?

Wear comfortable clothing to class such as shorts, leggings, or yoga pants. Please keep jewelry and perfume to a minimum.

 

What are class best practices?

You will be asked to remove your shoes and socks as yoga is practiced with bare feet. It is recommended that you refrain from eating at least 2 hours before class. If you do have food, make sure to eat lightly. We recommend having a yoga mat, a strap, two blocks, and a blanket. We also have all of the gear for you to borrow in our studio. What is yoga?

Yoga is a comprehensive wellness system that addresses all aspects of a person: mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual. Yoga is a Sanskrit word derived from the root yuj meaning to bind together or to yoke. The aim of yoga is to unite the powers of the mind, body, and emotions under the guidance of your own intelligence. Yoga can provide myriad ways to gain balance in your daily life. The postures can help you to overcome the limitations of the body and mind. Yoga, in its many forms, cultivates overall wellness, which includes physical fitness, stress relief, inner peace, and spiritual growth.

 

What is Hatha yoga?

Hatha yoga, the most common type of yoga done in Western culture, unites breath, body, and mental focus. If practiced regularly, hatha yoga has numerous benefits including better posture, a healthier heart, and much more.The meditative quality of yoga can even alter brain waves. Which TBY classes are good for beginners?

Our Restorative & Gentle is perfect for beginners, as well as our Basics Yoga class - learn more about our classes here! Teachers Julia Jonson and Andrew Gurvey offer 1:1 Instruction for those wanting individual attention and not a group setting. They both love working with beginners! 

 

How much does it cost?

We offer single class passes for $22 each, 4 class passes for $78, or unlimited monthly pass for $88 (get your first month for only $70 with code MEMBERPASS20).

 

Where does class take place?

Many of our classes are hybrid meaning you can practice from the comfort of your home LIVESTREAM, or in-person at our TBY Yoga studio located inside Life Force Health Center in Mundelein, IL.

 

How often should I practice yoga?

You can practice yoga every day. It is important to take responsibility for your own yoga practice. Instead of seeing your time on the mat at a workout, think of your time spent practicing as a way to gain a better understanding of the mind/body/spirit connection. It’s important to choose a class appropriate for your level of practice.

 

What are the benefits of yoga?

The benefits of yoga are too numerous to list and this ancient discipline is gaining the respect of the Western medical community. If practiced regularly (at least 3 times per week), yoga can improve sleep, lower blood pressure, boost immunity, strengthen muscles and bones, increase both physical and mental flexibility, calm the central nervous system, ward off aging, and much more. While the list of benefits is lengthy, perhaps the top reason to adopt a disciplined practice is peace of mind.
