"Try yoga." This summer, 2007 suggestion of a friend changed my life at the culmination of a very long, particularly stressful time. My first experience was a Hatha class that met once a week—I fell in love with the practice, and I ended up attending session after session, term after term. Eventually I sought out additional yoga opportunities, which led me to Total Body Yoga and ultimately the TBY Teacher Training Program. I taught my first class in April of 2010.

I am endlessly grateful to my own yoga teachers past and present, and I am honored to be part of the TBY teaching team and to have the opportunity to bring to others what yoga has brought to me. Yoga is a dance of body, mind and spirit that soothes like nothing else…when a person opens up to the practice, the body thrives, the mind clears and the spirit flourishes. As a teacher I strive to help students explore these blessings in their own practices. I particularly enjoy introducing new practitioners to yoga, guiding them as they begin their own unique yogic experiences.

I have been a teacher and writer all my professional life--I started out as a high school science teacher, working with all grade levels primarily in Biology and Chemistry. I eventually switched gears so I could devote my time to writing freelance articles and essays; over the years I've been published nationally and locally, online and in-print, on topics ranging from education to adoption to yoga. Now, I’m back to teaching, working as an adjunct instructor at the University of Illinois at Chicago in the College of Applied Health Sciences.  

In addition to my E-RYT with Yoga Alliance, I have my Bachelor of Science in General Biology from UIUC and my Master of Arts in Secondary Education from Roosevelt University. When I'm not teaching classes, I'm usually either reading, going for a long walk, or spending time with my young daughter (who happens to be MY greatest teacher).
