Susan Zelmanski Finerty
Susan began practicing yoga in 2002. As a mom with young children, yoga was her way of creating space for herself and better managing the chaos of life. Fast forward to 2013, Susan was dealing with a number of personal challenges, and something told her that the only way through the storm was a dedicated yoga practice. Yoga then became core to her lifestyle, and she hasn’t turned back since!
To Susan, yoga is her constant, her “steady Eddie”. No matter how crazy life gets, she always has her mat and her practice to carry her through. It helps her practice being present, present, present! In her classes, Susan creates an environment for students to really drop into their bodies, their breath, and the present moment. She shares alignment-based yoga with creative flow sequences and unexpected transitions. She hopes students leave feeling relaxed, present, and accomplished.
Susan completed her 200-hour yoga teacher certification under TBY Co-Founder, Julia Jonson, and has completed additional studies in trauma bodywork, Yin Yoga, and Vedic Thai Yoga. She feels fortunate to have been exposed to some of Chicagoland’s very best yoga instructors over the years.
Susan’s professional life ‘off-the-mat’ includes writing, coaching, and speaking about how humans interact to get work done. She enjoys bringing yoga into her corporate work as well as into the practicalities of being a human. She holds an MA in Organizational Communication, is the author of three books, and is the principal of Finerty Consulting.
In her free time, Susan is a native plant gardening geek, a solid B+ cook, and loves paddle boarding, hiking, and time in her native state of Michigan.
